THE BLACK DITCH

The Black Ditch, referring to an early (and more dashing) name for the 100-mile wide Taiwan Strait, proposes an open call for ideas, both literal and poetic, about how and why we should fill in the Taiwan Strait. Responses will be gathered into public repository as a Reference to the Future.

The Black Ditch is more than an unrealizable engineering exercise (though these types of imaginative proposals have a long and inextricable connection to human expression); it is a site-specific project, taking the epochal story of China as the most prolific and audacious agent of massive landscape alteration ever, as the site itself.
