OBSERVATORY: OAKLAND
Description
Who and what truly defines a neighborhood?
OBSERVATORY: OAKLAND is a visual observation mapping project utilizing a cartographic methodology that combines Kogengaku (Modernologio) and Fluxus and that we developed to reveal the ephemeral or overlooked, by yet essential, qualities of neighborhoods throughout Oakland, California.
What new perceptions evolve when we chart the heights or hairstyles of the residents? Or document species of urban birds? The project includes community mapping workshops with youth and seniors at the Lion Creek Crossings apartments, the Oakland Public Libraries and elsewhere.
The project findings will be compiled in a book to be published in 2014.
